The Head Start Birth to Five Program serves enrolled families by providing education, family services, health and nutrition services, support with special education evaluations/services, and mental health services. We have both center based and home based programs.
Head Start’s mission is to provide a comprehensive learning environment to children that is respectful of their cultures and to assist families in reaching self-sufficiency through the combined efforts of parents, community and staff.
Our program utilizes nationally recognized, research based curricula with periodic developmental assessments. Parent teacher conferences are conducted for each child. Collaborative agreements with several school districts enable us to also offer the New York State Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program.
At the Children’s Community Head Start and Early Head Start a team of health professionals ensures that the medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional needs of each child are met.
Services include health screenings, advocacy, information and referral.
The program ensures good nutrition by providing a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack to each child daily enrolled in the center-based program.
Good nutrition and the importance of an active lifestyle are further reinforced in the classroom.
Parents are the most important influence on a child’s development. An essential part of our program is the involvement of our parents in parent education, program planning, and classroom activities.
The Children’s Community Head Start and Early Head Start has many opportunities for parents to get involved including Policy Council, Parent Committee, parent volunteers, and educational workshops.
Family Advocates at the Children’s Community Head Start and Early Head Start partner with families to assist in identifying family goals, strengths and necessary supports. Information is available to families on such topics as parenting, child care, health and nutrition, child development, job training, literacy, mental wellness, emergency assistance and crisis intervention.
